S2 Expressive -built environment unit -
Investigating your local area and studying a contemporary artist who deals with this subject matter in his work.
German born artist Franz Ackerman 1963 lives and works in Berlin.
His work is a colourful and bold statement of the built environment as he sees it. His artwork explores collaged, mirrored and overlapping pattern - with fragments of the build environment interchanging using block colour, pattern and shape. His paintings distort our perception of the built-up environment and surroundings and creates a new fantastical place to uncover and explore.
You will study the work of Franz Ackerman and look at ways of seeing the environment around you.
It's an exciting and challenging way to interpret your surroundings. You will visit the local area taking photographs, sketches and drawing detailed studies as well as mapping out the terrain in new ways.
This investigative approach will help you to create artworks whilst studying Ackerman's work.
